As a habit, most of us relax after eating dinner or lunch. We even have siesta to justify the guilt-free lying down after eating.
But this habit is extremely bad for our health.
Apart from it, there are other bad practices we usually do after eating. Here it as follows:
1. Sleep
If you are about to go to bed just right after eating a meal, you will be experiencing discomfort, bloating and other sleeping patterns which can cause your stomach to burn during the night.
The University of Loannina Medical School has conducted a research study which proved that people who waited for a longer period of time before going to bed after a meal are those who have less risk of experiencing a stroke. Therefore, you have to make sure not to eat at least a few hours before going to bed.
2. Drink Tea
You should not drink tea just right after you had a dinner or lunch due to the fact that it will only interfere with the iron absorption in your body. The tea contains tannic acid that binds with iron and protein in our food.
It is scientifically proven that in most cases results to 87% decrease in iron absorption. Iron deficiency can cause anaemia which result to pale skin, poor appetite, chest pain, cold feet and hands, dizziness, weakness and an extreme fatigue.
3. Smoke
We are all aware that smoking is one of the bad vices and is extremely harmful to our health, but most of the people still continue do this terrible habit even right after they are done eating their meal.
It very necessary to wait for a few hours after eating your meal before smoking a cigarette due to the fact that cigarettes contains nicotine which can bind to the excess oxygen that is essential for digestion, this allows your body to absorb more carcinogens than the usual.
Studies have shown that smoking right after a meal is equal to smoking 10 cigarettes at once. In addition, this will actually boost your risk of having lung and bowel cancer.
4. Shower
Taking a shower just right after having a meal can increase the blood flow in both of your legs and hands that will decrease the blood flow in your stomach. This will make your digestive system weak and might lead to stomach pain.
5. Don’t go for walks immediately after a meal
Or go if you really want to, but then you’ll have some serious acid re-flux and indigestion; if that’s what you want. You can go for a walk after a meal, sure, but after at least 10 minutes please. Then it is perfectly healthy.
