We often stereotype those who are homeless. We think they are all addicts, or mentally ill. We think that all of them are there because they made really bad choices. We might believe that they are incapable of anything else that would be productive. I wonder if we would be most surprised if we took the time to know their stories and what is in their hearts?

There was a street performer in Liverpool that was recently blown away by a homeless man in a wheelchair. Jonny Walker is a 35-year-old singer/songwriter who has been performing on the streets for the last 15 years. He’s no doubt encountered many interesting people in those years. But never has he been more surprised than when Bernard wheeled up to him hunched over in his chair and asked for the mic.
“I spend a lot of time playing music on the streets and had seen this man many times over the years, but had never heard him sing,” Walker said.
Bernard took the microphone and began an absolutely amazing rendition of the song “Summertime.” The people around Walked screamed with their delight!
“I was blown away by his voice and the passion of his delivery, and I asked someone standing nearby to film the encounter on my phone,” Walker said.
As you watch this video, I’m pretty sure that you will be shocked as well. Who would have guessed that this homeless man would have such a seasoned and rich voice. I wonder what story the homeless that you might encounter has? I wonder what is in their heart?
