We all know dogs make wonderful companions and cats are great for cuddling – but what about roosters? Well, for this young lady from Atlanta, Texas, her rooster is her best friend and she wouldn’t have things any other way.
For 13-year-old Savannah, life with her rooster is like a dream and Savannah’s mother, Holley Burns, is fascinated by their unique friendship!
It all started when the Burns family brought home an interesting little rooster. Just minutes after his arrival, everyone in the family noticed that he wasn’t like the other chickens they had in the past. First, he had a few tufts of feathers on his feet. Secondly, the way he walked had everyone scratching their heads.
Holley told The Dodo about how the unique little rooster got his name:
“He didn’t walk – he hopped. My son was like, ‘It’s hopping like a frog. We should name him ‘Frog.'”
From that moment on, he was called Frog the Rooster. However, Frog’s interesting behavior was far from over.
Instead of relaxing with his fellow chickens, Frog was more focused on the humans in the house. Holley told The Dodo how strange this was at first:
“He was very attentive. He wasn’t interested in what the chickens were doing, he was interested in what the humans were doing.”
But Frog wasn’t fascinated by all people – in fact, it was one human in particular that had his interest.
Frog would tail Savannah wherever she went in the house and even started to follow her to the bus stop! This was an incredible behavior that the entire Burns family had never seen before.
Holley told The Dodo that Frog’s obsession with her daughter is as strong as ever.
“He will stay with her at the end of the driveway until she gets on the bus. He will then just come back and do his adventures with us and our daily routines until it’s time to meet her when she gets home…
“She’d take him to the laundry room and he’d watch attentively. She’d go and wash dishes and she’d set him up on the counter and he’d watch her wash the dishes…
Everything is Frog and Savannah. She pulls him in a wagon. Wherever she goes, he’s right behind her. He gets up on the bunk beds with her. He’ll sit and watch TV with her.”
Thankfully, Savannah is just as crazy about Frog as he is about her!
Holley says that, to this day, Frog follows Savannah to and from the bus stop.
“He hears the bus stop a few houses down on the county road. And then he’s running down to the end of the driveway before it gets there. Every day.”
It’s obvious they are going to be best friends for years to come!
