Jared Watson loves music and practices singing at home all the time. The teen attends Delmar High School, but no one had any idea that the kid could sing. Truly sing.
Jared has spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic disease that affects the part of the nervous system that controls voluntary muscle movement. The disease has stolen Jared’s muscle movement and he is bound to a wheelchair.
Deep down inside, Jared dreamed of traveling to Nashville and pursuing a career in music. He also would love to be an announcer for voice overs and in radio.
So Jared decided that to make that dream come true, he needed to take a brave first step. He entered his high school talent show and practiced relentlessly at home in preparation for the big day.
It was time for Jared to show his fellow classmates the type of gift he had been blessed with. He couldn’t wait to share his God-given talents with everyone.
On the day of Jared’s talent show, his father graced the stage to play guitar by his son’s side. Jared opened up and began singing the country song “I Told You So,” first made famous by country crooner Randy Travis, then remade by country superstar Carrie Underwood.
It’s startling how wide of a vocal range Jared has, and how powerful his voice is! But even more impressive is just how passionate Jared is about music, which he shows everyone while performing.
His fellow students and school staff members could not believe how amazing Jared was. In fact, they gave him a heartwarming standing ovation!
Jared was thrilled to place in the top three performers at the talent show – and now the video of his performance has gone viral, catapulting him to unexpected local fame. He even has the opportunity to record a demo CD!
