Turmeric is one of the healthiest spices in the world. The main and most powerful compound, found in turmeric, is curcumin. This powerful compound is extremely beneficial for the human body and it can provide many health benefits. Curcumin has powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial properties. Turmeric supplements are available in capsules, tincture or liquid extracts. Turmeric is extremely helpful due to its potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. It reduces liver damage due to cirrhosis (scarring of the liver), iron overdose, ethanol, high toxicity levels, and liver diseases (such as cholestasis).
Turmeric for Brain Health
The ability of turmeric to improve brain function was relatively unknown until recently, when it was discovered that curcumin, the active ingredient found in turmeric, can be very helpful in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. The researchers have found that curcumin can inhibit the buildup of one of the primary causes for Alzheimer’s, beta-amyloid plaques, by a whopping 40%.
In addition to this, it was also discovered that curcumin’s powerful anti-inflammatory properties can play a major role in Alzheimer’s treatment as well, as it reduces damage caused by inflammation and oxidizing agents.
Also, there are some studies which suggest that turmeric can be used for the treatment of depression.
