When pair figure skaters Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov made their way onto the ice, the audience was in for a treat. No one knew just how much risk filled their routine, or that if they nailed it they could secure the gold medal.
All the audience knew was that their routine was one they couldn’t miss out on. Here were two Russian skaters, destined all along to be paired, and when they finally became a team back in 2010, their talent has only multiplied.
The audience watched in awe as they skated flawlessly across the ice with an introduction that took their breath away. As their performance continued, the moves just kept getting more and more complex.
It was impossible for the announcer not to relay the excitement that was right before his eyes, “The atmosphere is electric!” Just as the audience suspected, their performance was golden, yet every movement required precision in order to complete in first.
Both Tatiana and Maxim had a strong history of skating before being paired back in 2010, so when they started skating together as a team, it was as if they could only make each other better. That’s exactly what they did so far in this performance, but the tension, emotions and nerves built with every second.
One wrong move and it could possibly ruin their chance at the gold medal at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. With eyes on the prize and faith in each other, they kept their routine going and the judges couldn’t believe their eyes.
This dynamic routine, when paired with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Jesus Christ Superstar” definitely is an award-winning routine. Everyone who watches them realizes they deserve the gold medal, but now it’s up to the panel of judges.
Their ending move made everything clear. It’s truly astonishing!
