How to Wash Your Face Properly

Beauty tips

How do you wash your face? Washing your face shouldn’t be that harsh. Our face has one of the most delicate skin on our body and taking care of it needs a gentle touch.

Following the proper techniques when washing your face is necessary to avoid damaging your skin. Sometimes it’s your everyday habit that causes harm or good to your skin.

Some leading dermatologists identified the mistakes that people make when washing their faces. Read on below to know the do’s and don’ts of washing your face.

DO’s

#1: Wash Your Hands First
You should always wash your hands first prior to washing your face. Otherwise you’re just transferring the dirt and germs into your face. Also make sure to remove all the soap off your hands before touching your face to avoid skin irritation because of the chemicals from the hand soap.

#2: Remove Your Makeup
When removing your makeup, use a cotton pad with olive or organic coconut oil for a thorough cleansing. Use this method to remove your eye makeup as this area is so delicate.

#3: Wash Your Face Twice Daily
Don’t over-washed your face because it could remove the lipids from your skin that protects and locks in moisture. Wash your face in the morning with a gentle cleanser then you can exfoliate at night.

#4: Use a Gentle Cleanser or Organic Soap
Choose an organic soap or gentle cleanser when washing your face. You can also use a pure castile soap. If you want a scented one, add a drop or two of lavender essential oil for that relaxing aromatherapy.

#5: Wash Your Hair First Then Your Face
Remember this very important routine when you take a shower, wash your hair first then rinse the shampoo and conditioner out of your hair. After that you can wash your face then. This is because some conditioners contain pore-clogging ingredients that can lead to skin irritation or acne.

DON’T’S

#1: Use Cold or Hot Water
Avoid using cold or hot water when you take a shower. The water should be warm instead. Hot water can break blood capillaries and vessels. It also strips your skin of its natural moisture that give you that youthful glow. Cold water on the other hand, closed up the pores of you’re skin.

#2: Use Commercial Face Cleansers
Be careful when using face cleansers. Check the ingredients or the brands when purchasing skin care products. Avoid products that contain surfactants, hormone-distrupting chemicals, plasticizers and carcinogens.

#3: Scrub so Hard
Too much scrubbing and washing can cause skin irritation. Be gentle in scrubbing and washing your face.

#4: Rub your face dry
Avoid rubbing your face to dry off. Use a clean towel or washcloth instead and pat your face dry. Also avoid using the same washcloth for more than two days as this can cause skin irritation.
