When we are having an itchiness in our eye, most of us just scratch it up but rubbing your your eyes might lead from mild to serious irritation.
This may not give you the relief from the itchiness you feel but may bring you something worse.
Here are some natural home remedies that can give you relief from itchy eyes:
1. Water
No matter how many times you have actually heard this before, it is essential to repeat this all over again. Drink Water! If you consume a lot of water, your eyes will stay hydrated and it can prevent eye irritation.
2. Cold Compress
The first thing that you have to do when your eyes started to feel itchy is to splash some cold water in the affected eye. Afterwards, cover some ice tubes or ice packs in a clean towel and put it in your closed eyelids. This remedy can effectively help you in soothing the irritation.
3. Frozen Vegetables
Cover a bag of frozen vegetables with a cotton towel and put in on the affected eye of yours. Leave it for a couple of minutes. This will give you a feeling of relief and it can also soothe the pain and inflammation.
4. Potatoes
Grate a piece of potato and put it on the affected eye. This vegetable has astringent properties that can help in reducing the inflammation.
Potatoes can also be used as an icepack, just put it over the eyes for a couple of minutes. Repeat this method for at least three nights to treat eye inflammation.
5. Cucumber Slices
This is one of the most commonly used remedies in order to effectively soothe eye irritation as well as inflammation. Just simply cut to slices of cucumber and put them in ice cold water for a couple of minutes. Then, put these cucumber slices on your closed eyelids. This cooled cucumber can help you in relieving your eyes and it can also lessen the soreness.
6. Chilled Spoons
Put the metal spoons inside the glass that contains cold water. When the spoons are already chilled, place one of them on the affected eyes of yours. As the spoon starts to warm, change it with the other chilled spoon from the glass. Continue changing the spoons until the swelling or irritation lessens. The cold temperature that the spoon has helps to tighten the blood vessels which reduce the swelling and redness of the eyes.
7. Tea Bags
Tea has bioflavonoid properties that can battle against viral and bacterial infections. It has the ability to effectively lessen the eye irritation. Just place a moist green or black tea bag on the affected are for a couple of minutes. Do this method for at least 5 to 6 times on a daily basis.
If your eyes are swollen, simply soak the tea bag in cool water. The tannic acid that tea bag contains can actually relieve your itchy eyes. A mild solution of tea can be also used as an eye wash too.
