A boy from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was severely beaten in school — sparking outrage from his parents and social media users.
Tyler Mota was reportedly thrown to the ground and beaten viciously while his teacher took attendance. His father, Eugene Mota, said he believes his 14-year-old son was attacked and that it was not a fight.
“I think it was more of an attack,” he told KFOR. “A fight is pushing, punching, not busting somebody’s teeth like that with anger.”
Although the boy had teeth knocked out and suffered other severe injuries, the school never called an ambulance. Instead he was sent to the school nurse’s office.
“They should have called EMSA right away. If he was passed out on the floor, blood everywhere, teeth in a milk carton, what else had to happen for them to call an ambulance?” Eugene asked.
The school instead called Tyler’s mother, whose job is 30 miles away, and she arrived at the school over an hour later due to traffic and construction.
“When I saw Tyler in a wheelchair, I just kept shaking,” Michelle Mota said. “I took him and rushed to St Anthony’s [Hospital].”
A police report was filed about the incident, and school district officials told KFOR they are were investigating the handling of the situation.
“We are deeply saddened and share the mother’s concerns in regards to her son’s injuries,” the district stated.
Many readers expressed anger over how the school handled the attack, and called for the student responsible as well as the teacher to be held accountable.
“That teacher has no business being a teacher if you can’t control your students get out and that school needs to be under a thorough investigation,” one reader commented on Newsiosity’s Facebook page.
“If the teacher was ‘too busy’ to see the boy being viciously beaten, perhaps no one will notice when she gets beaten the same way,” another wrote. “The saw cuts both ways, you know.”
“Do not talk to the school do not talk to the teacher, get yourself the best lawyer you can find,” advised one commenter. “Sue the school and they will have to pay for all of his medical bills and whatever settlement. until parents start suing the School’s principals teachers school boards this stuff is going to continue. if that principle and that teacher loses their job they may think twice next time.”
“Absolutely NEGLIGENCE on the part of the teacher who was taking attendance when this horrific beating took place and of the school office workers who ignored serious injuries that required immediate attention, and of anyone in position of authority at that school that saw this boy and did not notify the police!!!!” commented another. “This beating should have been stopped immediately.”
