Former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, are reportedly looking at a luxury apartment in New York City, sparking speculation that the former first lady might be pursuing a run for office.
Several sources told Page Six that the couple was looking at an apartment on the historic upper east side of Manhattan — right near the mayor’s residence, Gracie Mansion. The apartment building, which was built in 1930, has 15 floors and 43 apartments that have housed such figures as Gloria Vanderbilt and Alexander Woollcott.
The facility has a gym and an indoor basketball court, as well as strong security that includes an underground garage.
The rumored purchase comes just months after the family left the White House and purchased an 8,200 square-foot mansion in Washington, D.C.
Many readers speculated that the move might have something to do with a run for office on the part of Michelle, causing a lot of people to react rather strongly.
“You may move to New York, you may even run for senate, but there is no way on Gods green earth will you ever win. Your Husband nearly drove this Country to the brink of destruction and is still trying too. Do you really think that we the people are going to put you in the Senate where you can continue your husbands subversive agenda to destroy America? I don’t think so!” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page.
“Well she try run but now that Americans have THEIR EYES wide OPEN she can try..money speaks and bull s**t.walks..but like Hillary Clinton only corruption like the last 30 years will no longer help her..neither will corrupt POLITICS. Good luck,” another added.
Other readers questioned the source of the former first couple’s wealth.
“Personally since they weren’t that wealthy before he held office I think it’s obscene that they have that kind of money now to [buy] a residence in ny.that witch will never be our president. She should give those millions to the inner city communities that need help.greed is a terrible thing,” one reader commented.
“Big question where did they get the money? There’s over $6.5 billion plus missing from the federal coffers! He didint make enough money as president nor could residuals from book sales or even speeches to cover the properties they are buying? Washington D.C., Martha’s Vineyard, New York where did they get the money to do this?” another questioned.
