For one young woman from England, life was about to get very complicated very quickly. It all started when Becki-Jo, a mother of an adorable little girl named Indiana, began feeling nauseous and uncomfortable.
Since she had already gone through one pregnancy, Becki-Jo suspected a new little bun in the oven may be the cause. She had no idea that her body was preparing for this…
Becki-Jo spoke to the Liverpool Echo about how she first realized that she was expecting. She said:
“I had been being very sick and had a really bad headache so I booked an early scan and that was when I found out I was expecting triplets. It was the biggest shock of my life!
We haven’t got any triplets in the family so it came completely out of the blue.”
With no family history of triplets, Becki-Jo was forced to figure out her pregnancy mostly by herself. She worked with loved ones to get their family ready for a tiny trio!
After 31 weeks of pregnancy, Becki-Jo rushed to the hospital – it was time to give birth. However, things weren’t all fine and dandy once her three boys, Rocco, Roman, and Rohan arrived.
She told the Liverpool Echo that the boys were far from healthy when they were first born.
“When they were born Rocco was 3lbs 5, Roman was 3lbs 6 and Rohan was 3lbs 10.”
The triplets were immediately rushed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and cared for there for three long weeks before they were allowed to go back home.
After the breathing tubes, chords, and wires were removed, Becki-Jo finally got a good look at her boys’ faces. That’s when she noticed something strange. They all looked identical to one another!
According to various sources online, the chances of giving birth to identical triplets range anywhere from one in 60,000 to one in 200 million. That’s why Becki-Jo was so skeptical that her boys were truly identical triplets.
Shortly after they arrived home and settled in, Becki-Jo took swaps of her boys’ DNA and sent it off to a lab to confirm her suspicions. Sure enough, the results came back positive! She was the mother of a set of identical triplets!
Becki-Jo told the Liverpool Echo that, as the boys got older, they started to look more and more alike. Now it’s impossible to go out in public without someone asking about their similarities.
“I was always convinced they weren’t because that’s what I had been told during my pregnancy. I got in touch with a company who sent me some swabs and within three days of me sending them back they told me the boys were identical…
We don’t get anywhere fast because people are always stopping us when we’re out and asking if they are identical.”
Even though it may be hard for other people to keep the triplets in order, Becki-Jo told the Liverpool Echo that she has things down pat.
“I don’t get them mixed up – it’s only when they’re asleep that they look the same to me. They all have completely different personalities.”
She went on to explain things further during an interview with the Daily Mail UK.
“Rohan is the loud one, he’s always shouting. Rocco is normally quite laid-back, but he can be feisty too, while Roman is usually complaining that he doesn’t want to share.
They’re always crawling about after the same toy, trying to get to it before their brothers do.
Indiana loves them, she’s not one bit jealous – I do feel a bit sorry for her when I think what it’s going to be like growing up with three little brothers though!”
Thankfully, Indiana gets along with her brothers and helps looks after them when Mom needs an extra hand!
Even though things might be crazy in the Allen household – and it can be difficult for others to tell the boys apart – they wouldn’t have things any other way!
